Johnson to Lead Army Flight Surgeons

Erik Johnson, D.O., M.P.H., is the 2024–2025 President for the Society of U.S. Army Flight Surgeons.

He is an Army Aerospace and Occupational Medicine Specialist currently serving as the Chief, Aviation Medicine Branch, at the Department of Aviation Medicine at Fort Novosel, AL. In this capacity he is the primary instructor for the U.S. Army Flight Surgeon Course. He has served 7 years in operational medicine as either a Battalion or Brigade Flight Surgeon with combat deployments in each role, both with the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
   Dr. Johnson graduated from the Aerospace Medicine residency program in 2018 and the Occupational Medicine program in 2019, both at the Department of Aviation Medicine at Fort Novosel. He previously completed a General Surgery Internship in 2012 at Madigan Army Medical Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. In 2011 he received his doctorate degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, and also has his M.P.H. from the University of West Florida, received in 2018. He serves on AsMA’s History and Archives Committee
