Monlux to Head SUSNFS

Daniel Monlux, M.D., M.P.H., will be the 2024–2025 President for the Society of U.S. Navy Flight Surgeons (SUSNFS).

He is board certified in Family Medicine and Aerospace Medicine. He is also a Naval Flight Surgeon, practicing Senior HIMS FAA Aviation Medical Examiner, and co-founder of Wingman Med, which provides consulting services for pilots with complicated medical certification issues. 
   Dr. Monlux began his professional career as a Naval Aviator in 1998. After flight school, he was selected to fly the F/A-18 Hornet and deployed multiple times aboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). He flew 21 combat missions in support of Operations Southern Watch and Iraqi Freedom and later served as instructor at VMFAT-101 in Miramar, CA. He attended medical school at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD, followed by Family Medicine residency training at Fort Belvoir, VA. After further training as a Naval Flight Surgeon at Pensacola, FL, he was selected as an Aeromedical Dual Designator (AMDD) and assigned to U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa (USNHO), Japan. There he served as Department Head for Branch Medical Clinic Futenma, senior medical officer for all branch clinics in Okinawa, and flew as a pilot with Futenma H&HS in the UC-35D (Cessna Citation) aircraft.
   After his assignment to Okinawa, Dr. Monlux was selected for additional specialty training in Aerospace Medicine at the Navy Aerospace Medicine Institute in Pensacola, FL, which he completed in June of 2021. For the next 2 years he served as Senior Medical Officer aboard USS Abraham Lincoln and Carrier Strike Group 3 Surgeon. He plans to retire from Naval service in August 2024. He is a member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, the American Academy of Physicians, and the Aerospace Medical Association. His awards include the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Medal, two Navy Achievement Medals and two Navy Commendation Medals, the Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
