The John A. Tamisiea Award is given to an Aviation Medical Examiner or other individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the art and science of aviation medicine in its application to the general aviation field. It is sponsored by the Civil Aviation Medical Association.

Courtney D. Scott, Jr., D.O., MPH, MS, is the 2026 winner of the John A. Tamisiea Award for his significant contributions to the art and science of aviation medicine in the field of general aviation. After 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, he served for 15 years at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and now heads a pilot advocacy company. He has been an integral part in updating standards and policies for civil aviation which have benefited countless pilots. His comprehensive case reviews, presentations, and passion for aviation medicine have elevated our field.
