The John Ernsting Award is given for outstanding research in altitude physiology, and/or longstanding exceptional performance in the education, development, and administration of Aerospace Medicine and related specialties. It is sponsored by the Environmental Tectonics Corporation.

Anthony S. Wagstaff, M.B.B.Ch., BAO, Ph.D., Dip.Av.Med., MBA, is this year’s winner of the John Ernsting Award. He is being recognized for over three decades of transformative leadership, education, and research in aerospace medicine. A physician-scholar and visionary leader in Norway and internationally, he has advanced civil–military collaboration, global training standards, and evidence-based aeromedical practice. His pioneering work linking human factors, flight safety, and preventive medicine has inspired future generations, strengthened international cooperation, and set enduring standards for excellence in aerospace medicine worldwide. A pioneer in both military and civilian aerospace medicine, he has shaped the discipline in Norway and across the world through visionary leadership, scholarly excellence, and unwavering commitment to professional development. An inspiring educator, he has dedicated over 30 years to shaping the next generation of aerospace physicians through courses for military, civilian, and air ambulance personnel, and as lecturer at the University of Oslo. His evidence-based, human-centered approach has become a hallmark of excellence in aeromedical training.
