ALPA President Testifies before the U.S. Senate on Aviation Safety

Capt. Jason Ambrosi, current ALPA President, recently testified before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s Subcommittee on Aviation Safety, Operations, and Innovation. The hearing was called “Close Calls: Improving Safety Across the National Airspace System,” and Ambrosi’s testimony stressed the need for urgency in addressing a recent increase in close calls, as well as two fatal accidents that occurred near the Washington National Airport and at the LaGuardia Airport in the past 16 months. Keen to prevent future accidents, ALPA has made several recommendations for the Committee, including: 1) enact the ROTOR Act’s integrated ADS-B In mandate; 2) rapidly expand surface surveillance and runway lighting systems; 3) close the military ADS-B Out loophole; and 4) accelerate air traffic control modernization.
