The Modern Skies Coalition, of which the Air Line Pilots Association is part of, released a statement urging Congress to ensure that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and those who rely on the aviation industry are not impacted by government shutdowns. They pointed out that travelers, shippers, and other users pays millions in fees each year for aviation operations, and therefore deserve uninterrupted delivery of those services. They also support legislation to protect aviation workers to ensure they are compensated without interruption during a shutdown by drawing on money paid by users. They urged Congress to shield the FAA from funding lapses by allowing the agency to draw from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund during a shutdown. They also strongly support the bill introduced by
Chairman Graves and Ranking Member Larsen which would draw on monies paid by aviation users to continue critical FAA functions.
