Dr. Melchor Antuñano has announced his retirement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after nearly 34 years of dedicated public service, effective June 27, 2026.

Dr. Antuñano reflected on his career with gratitude, describing his work in aerospace medicine as a true calling that brought purpose, friendship, and fulfillment. He expressed heartfelt appreciation to his colleagues and friends across the aerospace medicine and human factors community, acknowledging their expertise, dedication, and shared commitment to improve aerospace safety and human performance.

“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to work alongside such remarkable professionals,” he shared. “Together, we have advanced standards and initiatives that keep global flight safe and efficient—a legacy we can all be proud of.”

Looking ahead, Dr. Antuñano plans to spend time with family and friends, explore new interests, and remain engaged with the aerospace medicine community. He will be joining the Center for Aerospace and Extreme Environments Medicine in the University of Central Florida College of Medicine as Chief Technologist and Medical Innovation Officer.

A retirement ceremony (in person & virtual) is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Dr. Antuñano welcomes continued connection with colleagues and friends via email or phone.
